Dry all over your body? There’s a connection!
Discover the nutritional benefits of blackcurrantseed oil
The skin needs fats to function normally, but not just any fats. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are important nutrients that we can only get through our diets. In fact, they’re called essential fatty acids, as our cells need them in order to function optimally. We met with food researcher and professor Kallio from Turku University for his take on Omega 3 and Omega 6, and his message was clear: “You can’t survive without them!”
Today, we know that nutritional deficiencies/imbalances between Omega 3 and Omega 6 are very common in the Western world, resulting in poor health even though may of us believe we’re eating correctly. What’s going on?
The fact is that it’s not just about consuming a balanced ratio of high-quality fatty acids; it’s crucial that the body can also absorb the nutrients on your plate. Food researchers have discovered that people with atopic skin often have difficulty metabolising Omega fatty acids. This is because they lack or have limited access to a particular enzyme (Delta 6-desaturase) which is required to convert the precursor fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6 into important building blocks for your skin and mucous membranes. An enzyme deficiency can also arise during stressful periods, which may result in dryness issues and poor health.
The tiny seeds in blackcurrant berries contain special Omega fatty acids that allow the even those with an enzyme deficiency to absorb the nutrition, creating a balance in the skin’s lipid metabolism - which explains all the amazing results we’ve seen and heard about from our customers.
